Day 243
After the recent activities Bettina and I decided to slow down a little bit. This meant that we would be sticking around in Cusco for some more time while Berne continued with his journey.
In the evening Bettina, Berne and I went to Paddy’s Irish Pub to catch up with a few remaining people from the jungle tour.
Day 244
Berne left early in the morning. So did we. However we only relocated to a new place a two-minute taxi ride away. For the upcoming two weeks we’d be lodging at the Golden Inca hotel.
It was Saturday. We had a lovely room. And plenty of time to beat. So we started to watch Dexter Season 6.
What a nice treat!
Day 245
More Dexter. And an English Pub called Cross Keys was this Sunday’s accomplishments.
Day 246
OK. It was time to be a little bit more productive again.
Monday was the day we commenced our Spanish classes at nearby Wiracocha Spanish School. I chose to do 4 hours of studying a day and joined a small group of two other guys — Bryce from Denver and Dani from Quebec City.
For Bettina to practice her more sophisticated level of Spanish ended up in a different group of course.
Dexter’s Season 6 finale was WOW! What a nasty cliff hanger! Cannot wait to the next season!
Day 247 – Day 250
The remainder of the week was pretty straight forward. We would get up in the morning and have breakfast at the hotel. Then walk 15 minutes to the school and proof our fancy Spanish skills for about 4 hours. Afterwards we circled around San Blas or the Plaza de Armas district and have lunch before heading home bound to do our homework, relax and watch some TV shows or films. Life was good.
Day 251
Since we were stuck in a tiny classroom for quite some time, Bettina and I looked forward to doing some sightseeing on the weekend.
We pretty much already covered most of the local sights. Hence we opted to do a tour to Valle Sur (South Valley).
The bus took us to a really lovely colonial church called Iglesia de San Pedro Apostol in Andahuaylillas 45 km from Cusco.
The pre-Incan Pikillaqta ruins were next. Piquillacta, in Southern Quechua Piki Llaqta (City of fleas), is a large Huari (650 AD – 900 AD) archaeological site 20 km east of Cusco. The place is pretty huge and exhibits very interesting clay structures.
When we were back in Cusco we checked out the Two Nations Australian Brew Pub… and enjoyed the best Aussie burger in a very long time (with beetroots)… Who would’ve thought this.
Day 252
Time to rest!
Day 253 – Day 256
Our second week was not too different from the previous one. We spent some decent amount of time at the Spanish school and wandered around town in the afternoon.
Boring can be so great!
Day 257
Unfortunately Friday was our last day at school.
It was good! Very intense times! I think I really learned a lot. On the one hand I am glad to not have to do any more classes (and homework in particularly)… on the other one I am sure a little bit of more studying would be really helpful to improve my Spanish even more. Maybe I’ll look into more structured studying further down in Argentina. If I’ll be able to cope with the Argentinian accent as many point out here.
Also we went to see Mercado Molino which is one very interesting place. Particularly if you want to re-acquire stolen property. Ah yeah:We bought a new camera there. Appears to be new, but who really knows. (At least we didn’t see the camera Berne was stripped off on NYE.
Time to move on…
Spanish classes and lots of leisure in Cusco
