The Almdoodle: A rainy weekend in the Austrian Alps
Last Friday, early in the morning I managed to leave my apartment and sit down at my destined gate at Dublin airport in less than 40 minutes’ time – timing deluxe…
After a very sunny and hot summer time in Germany it started to pour down again exactly when I arrived in Munich.
First things first, I caught up for lunch with Agathe and Alina at the Harras. Later in the afternoon I took the underground and met with Flori, Hannes and Miche in Schwabing’s north. By that time we were blessed with heavy showers and I was soaking wet. Grand circumstances for a fairly decent walk up on a mountain.
I couldn’t be convinced to NOT undertake our original plan, however. We acquired the usual goods (food, drinks and Bravo magazine) and hit the road southbound into the Alps.
At the infamous parking lot at Unken in Austria we disembarked, had a fancy drink and mounted our gear. Off we went.
Some hours later and fairly wet we arrived at the hut. It was raining and we were thirsty. It didn’t take long to fix that situation.
Since there was not much to see thanks to the rain and fog we spent most of our time doing the only right things: Playing cards, drinking beer, “playing” the Wamsler (aka. wood fired stove), enjoying some schnapps, cutting wood, cooking, eating, drinking Almdudler and inventing a new kind of dishwasher. I think that’s all. That’s it. Pleasing enough! Really!
The actual panorama wasn’t really awesome this time. At least we *heard* some cows. We were busy with the issues I mentioned above anyways… The photos underscore this… Good stuff!
