From 28 to 30 Dec Bettina and me spent some excellent time relaxing in a tiny township called Bergen not too far away. The village is located around 8km north of Neuburg an der Donau. One of its main features/sights would be the Pilgrims church of the Holy Cross aggregating Romanic and Rococo architectural styles.

The town’s subsequent sight is the ‘Romantik Hotel zum Klosterbräu’ – our place of residence. Established in 1744 the hotel offers a nice rustic and calm atmosphere, cosy rooms and serves award winning food.

On our first day we actually merely checked out the church and the town itself. On the following one we did better and kept cruising along the regions picturesque scenery in the beginning and eventually ended up in Neuburg an der Donau (literally Neuburg on the Danube River). Here we spent some extended moments exploring the stunning old town (Oberes Tor, Unteres Tor, Karlsplatz, Palace, Hutzeldörr, Ottheinrichplatz ) and shopping district (Seter Platz, Färberstraße, Schrannenplatz).

Thereafter we ended up strolling along the Englischer Garten park and the banks of the Danube River.

On the departure day we had a quick stop-over at the Jagdschloss Grünau, 7 km east of Neuburg followed by a couple of hours having various sessions of sauna at Wonnemar Ingolstadt, a perfect wrap-up of the trip.
